David Silva suffered a serious injury during Real Sociedad’s pre-season training this past July, resulting in a torn cruciate ligament, which put an end to the veteran player’s career and will require at least nine months of rehabilitation.

The news came as a huge blow to Real Sociedad, as Silva has always been seen as a symbol of the team, and despite being 37 years old, is still one of their most prominent players.

Nearly two months later, on Thursday, Silva underwent surgery to repair his ACL, and he confirmed the good news by posting a photo of the successful surgery on social media.

Now, Silva will begin the long process of rehabilitation. In the interim, he will also reportedly take on a mentoring role to assist the club’s new Russian international signing Arsen Zakharyan in settling into the squad and inheriting his position.
